The Clipper Afternoon Tea Party with Sasha Wilkins
A few weeks ago, I attended our first Contact the Elderly afternoon tea party, hosted by Liberty London Girl herself, Sasha Wilkins. What an amazing day!
We toured around Regents Canal on board our lovely vessel for the afternoon, a bright blue Electric Barge.
We had delicate cucumber sandwiches, deemed an essential nod to the classics, as well as mini dill scones with smoked salmon and horseradish cream for our savoury starters, before heading on to the cakes!
Sasha worked closely with the lovely caterers to develop a tea party menu which reflected some of our gorgeous infusions. There were raspberry macaroons to nibble alongside our Raspberry Leaf tea, and there were peppermint creams which worked deliciously with our After Dinner Mints.
Her mini apple cakes with elderflower icing were served in the cutest little teacups with dainty antique spoons, and echoed the notes in our Cloud Nine brew. My personal favourite were the sticky lemon and ginger cupcakes, with their dark rich cake and sharp refreshing lemon icing!
We supped tea, and nibbled treats as the barge made its way down the Regents Canal, and the drizzle began to clear. We passed cute little house boats, and the exotic birds of London Zoo. There was a tunnel which our boat – the largest on the river! – just about squeezed through! Sasha told us how she made it in the fashion biz – a winning combination of hard work and being lovely – and about her love of the canals. The ladies (and gent!) which attended the day with us I think will agree that a fabulous time was had by all.
Contact the Elderly reach out to those in our communities who can find themselves isolated, and brings them together with tea, cake and laughter. I feel privileged to have helped raise money – and awareness – for such a great cause.
