I have always dabbled with healthy eating, exercise classes and slimming groups and find that a lot of lifestyle changes are hard to sustain. When I fell pregnant with our first baby, it was more important than ever for me to adapt my lifestyle and make sure I was giving myself, my body and my baby the best possible conditions for a healthy life.
Therefore throughout my pregnancy I have tried to maintain a balanced diet and intersperse with comfortable exercise like swimming and yoga – which I’m loving! I even have a special pregnancy yoga DVD so I can do it in the comfort of my own home.
The eating is the tough bit…often all I want is stodge, Chinese take-aways and chocolate cake (and I found a renewed love for the crisp sandwich…I’m calling it a craving!). But I do try to make myself eat a balanced diet by enjoying a fruit smoothie for breakfast and lots of green veg with dinner. That way I’m still having a bit of what I love, but also lots of what is good for me.
One thing that I haven’t found a struggle, is what to drink. I’ve always generally drank water and not a lot of other soft drinks I’ve never been a big tea and coffee drinker, so cutting down on caffeine hasn’t been a tall task for me. But I did feel a little left out in the office when everyone was doing the tea-rounds and I’d always decline. I missed that 5 minute break and chat around the kettle that everyone else seemed to be enjoying. So I made it my mission to find a hot drink that I enjoyed…then stepped in Peppermint Tea!
While routing through the office stash of tea and coffee, I found a box of Clipper Organic Peppermint Tea and joined in that afternoon’s tea round. And I loved it! It felt refreshing, cleansing and was easy to drink. I quickly found that the peppermint tea also left me feeling less bloated in the afternoons. And good news is, I can drink it through my pregnancy too!
Now being in my second trimester, I’m starting to feel full and bloated and entirely bored of the canned and bottled soft drinks on offer. So being able to enjoy a hot cup of Clipper Peppermint Tea not only tastes good, feels healthy and soothes my tummy, but it relaxes me of an evening – which is an important thing these days!
Have you tried peppermint tea yet?
